Maritime transport plays a key role in the trade facilitation in that it facilitates the movement of goods between countries or trading nations. Trade facilitation also deals with the requirements and procedures related to the flow of information relating to the movement of goods. Traditionally, these requirements have been substantiated in the form of paper documents and procedures carried out through handling such documents. Technological advancements have made the handling and transmission and of data in electronic media feasible and productive.
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) technology has been adopted by maritime industry for very long time. This technology allows trade data in relation to the movement of good by maritime transport to be exchanged electronically between the maritime transport parties such as exporters, importers, shipping agent, shipping lines, port and terminal operators, customs and transport intermediaries. Electronic data interchange (EDI) is the structured transmission of data between organizations by electronic means.
SOLVERMINDS has been providing services to shipping lines and other maritime transport intermediaries to develop UN/EDIFACT and ANSI X12 standard EDI messages.
