Operations Research Analyst

SVM is looking for a highly competent Operations Research Analyst. “We are looking for motivated individuals with a recognized background in mathematical optimization to help the team design, develop, validate and deploy decision support tools.
In this role, a strong work ethic and excellent problem-solving skills are equally important as being a team player who enjoys learning and teaching.

Job Experience and Education Requirements

SVM requires applicants to meet the following education requirements and have the job experience as listed below:

  • 1+ years of experience
  • A Master’s or PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or other related field

Responsibilities:

Duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Interacting with product manager, business partners and clients to understand business requirements
  • Formulating and developing mathematical models, algorithm designs and simulation to solve complex planning, scheduling and routing problems for the shipping industry
  • Implementing prototypes and evaluating results with real-life data
  • Taking your ideas through full lifecycle: design, implement, test and release
  • Balancing complexity, execution time and memory footprint to deliver performance solutions
  • Helping to establish a viable architecture, as well as data and process workflows required to deploy the optimizers in production
  • Collaborating closely with your agile team members and other stakeholders
  • Studying upcoming techniques and encouraging good practices to bring into the team
  • Demonstrating the ability to be a self-starter and critical thinker
  • Learning new skills as required or provided by the team

Technical Expertise:

SVM requires applicants to have the following experience:

  • Strong theoretical background and some practical experience in various Operations Research techniques such as: Mathematical programming (Linear Programming, Mixed Integer Programming), Heuristic/Metaheuristic algorithms and Stochastic modelling
  • Strong experience of optimization software such as CPLEX, GUROBI, or Xpress
  • Experience prototyping and developing solutions in traditional programming languages (Python, Java, C++)
  • Experience with optimization modeling packages such as PuLP, PYOMO, CVXPY
  • Experience in collaborative software development environment (version tracking with Git, code reviews)
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, tested and shippable production code
  • Ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to technical and non-technical audience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and experience working in a collaborative environment is required
